The composition of dry air is 20.98% O2, 0.04% CO2, 78.06% N2, and 0.92% other inert constituents such as argon and helium. The movement of this oxygen from the outside environment to the cells within the tissues, and the transport of carbon dioxide in the opposite direction is defined as physiological respiration. Biologically, respiration can also be defined as a process of producing cellular energy.
