Lightening Quick Reflexes

How fast is your Sport?

If lightening quick reflexes and reaction times are critical to who wins or loses in your arena, then here is something that could very well ensure that attention and reaction times are at their optimum.

Here’s an interesting fact, a study was done on a group of students to determine the effect of inhaling highly concentrated oxygen on reaction times.  There was a significant improvement in reaction time in the presence of 43.2% oxygen compared with the 22.1% oxygen condition (Normal Air). This result supports the hypothesis that hyperoxic air increases oxygen saturation level in the blood, leading to more available oxygen to the brain, thus increasing the ability of cognitive processing.

These results are not surprising as meditation and martial arts teach us that strength, focus and awareness stem from how we breathe. Breathing a purer form of oxygen during a high-pressure competitive environment, can only lead to oxygen optimisation in the blood and the brain, resulting in improved alertness and awareness.

When we think of high speed, one but can’t help of thinking of race car drivers. The speeds at which man and machine are now accustomed to travelling at, on the race circuit is staggering, which means there is little to no room for error. Reflexes and alertness have to be lightening quick to manoeuvre a car on a track at over 300km an hour. It comes as no surprise that race car drivers in the UK and US are now using supplemental oxygen during races to keep super sharp.

Realistically any sport that involves physical and mental agility will benefit from the use supplemental oxygen. If the mind is in an optimum state of clarity, then execution of competition strategy becomes second nature.

Another useful tip is that, if pre-match jitters sometimes get the better of you, supplementing the mind with supplemental oxygen reduces the effect of shallow breathing caused by anxiousness, helping reduce cortisol levels, (stress hormone).

We have also taken our supplemental oxygen mixture a step further, we have infused pure oxygen in a refreshing Mint aroma to further enhance cognitive function Naturally. Now all that’s left is, for You to got out there and be amazing. You Got This!

Improve Memory and Mental Clarity Before Exams

Here is an interesting fact, the brain makes up 2% of our body mass but uses 20% of our oxygen supply for normal function. That ratio of size, to oxygen consumption, says oxygen is pretty important for brain function. Now the brain literally controls every body function both conscious and unconscious, however the most researched topic about the brain isn’t how it controls the heartbeat, but more around how we can improve MEMORY.

Let’s get into that. Studies have concluded that oxygen supports improved memory retention and better concentration. This is due to its ability to boost blood flow to the brain and improve neurotransmitter production. Based on the research done at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle, England, it was found that a dose of oxygen or glucose can improve performance on tasks that require great mental effort.
It doesn’t take research from an academic institution to convince us that oxygen does effect our thinking abilities. Try sitting in a full lecture/board room with poor ventilation. Immediately fatigue and the onset of brain fog occurs, slowing down our true thinking potential. This effect is from just being exposed to poor oxygen levels. If we had to add stress or anxiety to the mix, the result would be far worse.

During stressful situations, commonly experienced by students before exams, elevated levels of cortisol are experienced. Elevated cortisol levels can interfere with learning and memory, weight gain, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, and mental illness. Increasing the oxygen flow to the brain, de-stresses the mind and cortisol levels, allowing clear thought and improved mental clarity. Practices such as Yoga, Meditation and Breathing Technique, help reduce cortisol levels through the focus of breathing, promoting improved oxygen levels.

Having established the importance of oxygen in managing stress levels and memory recall, combining it with the aroma of peppermint only enhances cognitive performance. A study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience showed the aroma of peppermint led to improved memory and alertness.
A later study conducted in Cincinnati, Ohio exposed a group of students to the aroma of peppermint before a test which showed an improved accuracy rate of 28 percent compared to students who were not exposed to the aroma.

Combining good breathing practices with a mint aroma naturally improves cognitive performance while reducing stress levels and promoting mental clarity.

Most memory aids include different ingredients to improve blood flow to the brain by dilating the blood vessels carrying blood and oxygen to the brain. The goal behind this, is to improve oxygen levels to the brain. The brain’s primary fuel source is oxygen + glucose.  Pure O2 directly increases oxygen levels in the blood via the lungs to get the most direct oxygen flow to the brain. The glucose element is derived primarily from carbohydrates in both simple and complex forms.

Stimulants such as coffee, guarana and ginseng help fire up the neurons, however their effects are short lived without proper sleep, nutritious foods and sufficient oxygen during stressful periods.

Tips:

  • Practice good breathing technique
  • Exercise regularly (anything that gets the heart pumping)
  • Breathe supplemental oxygen during mentally stressful periods (exam preparation)
  • Ensure to combine simple and complex carbohydrates in your diet, especially during studying sessions and exams.

Oxygen Therapy in a Can – a NEW trend with an old SOUL

In a world where instant gratification is all the buzz, there are some things that simply cannot be rushed. Ever had a rushed Spa treatment, massage or beauty treatment? Not the greatest of experiences I’m sure. The relaxation experience encompasses soft lighting, invigorating aroma’s and soothing sounds to help the mind and body reconnect, to help leave the rat race of our daily lives, if only for a brief time. It is in this bubble of softness, peacefulness and dare I say it, YOUR time, can you actually start to unwind and let things be, one deep breath at a time. It is only fitting that the experience of luxurious, mint infused pure oxygen is enjoyed in moments like these, allowing each individual the uplifting experience of true relaxation.

The principle of the power of a breath is sound, and is taught by all eastern philosophy’s to enhance healing, rejuvenation and well-being. The noticeable effects are, softer rejuvenated skin, relaxation of tight muscles, restful sleep and the overall feeling of well-being. Combined with a SPA treatment, only amplifies the whole point of the experience…ultimate RELAXATION, REJUVENATION and RECOVERY.

The science behind it all suggests that when mind and body are put under physical or emotional stress, breathing becomes more rapid and shallow. This in itself increases the production of adrenaline and cortisol (stress hormone) which creates a cycle of poor breathing and a further lack of oxygen. Oxygen is an ingredient of such monumental importance that without it, life is absolutely impossible. Every cell in the body inhales oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide – a process called respiration. The body’s cells constantly need a new supply of oxygen in order to produce energy and without oxygen, cellular function is impaired, and damage or cell death is possible.

Breathing Premium Concentrated oxygen, oxygenates the blood, helping the body to naturally release “feel good” chemicals known as endorphins. These endorphins help mind and body relax, reducing stress and re-establishing the mind-body connection. Feeling relaxed, refreshed and reconnected has never been easier even after a long tiring day, after a long flight (Jet Lag), or just holidaying in Johannesburg (1750m above sea level). Premium oxygen can only enhance the benefits of a relaxing experience, so if a Time Out is needed, treat yourself with the ultimate experience, ONE Breath at a Time.

CrossFit Open 2018 – Pure O2

Why IT WORKS…

We created Pure O2 learning from the principles of martial arts and meditation. Our goal was to maximise the amount of work done in the SHORTEST space of Time. Intensity is essential for results and is measurable as work divided by time OR power. The more work you do in less time, or the higher the power output, the more intense the effort. Focus and concentration is the first thing to fade when the body is put under extreme physical strain. The first signs of this is, form starts to slip, muscles start to burn, breathing becomes uncontrollable and lastly dizziness.   90% of the time, this is not due to a lack of calorie intake but rather a lack of oxygen. The longer the intensity the more the oxygen required to continue at peak levels, and prevent lactic acid build up. When under a competitive environment, cortisol and adrenalin levels are high, further depleting the body’s oxygen levels. Read more

Back To Basics – O2 Physiology

The composition of dry air is 20.98% O2, 0.04% CO2, 78.06% N2, and 0.92% other inert constituents such as argon and helium. The movement of this oxygen from the outside environment to the cells within the tissues, and the transport of carbon dioxide in the opposite direction is defined as physiological respiration. Biologically, respiration can also be defined as a process of producing cellular energy. Where oxygen is present in this metabolic process aerobic respiration take place i.e. Glucose + Oxygen = Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy. Read more
