Blake is an inspiration to us all, and as such deserves to be called a Maverick. He has found his passion and with each passing day, perfects his craft. For those aspiring Strongmen and Women out there, we sat Blake down and got him to answer a few questions, which hopefully will help you along your journey.

When did your journey into Strongman begin?

When I was 19 I was able to dead-lift 330kg and I fell in love with the sport. It taught me how to work hard for what you want and to set goals. Getting to the top is not luck, its determination to succeed and not being satisfied until you reach that goal.

Why do you push yourself that hard?

I wake up each morning knowing I have to give it my best, to push myself to new limits and work harder than the day before. Each time I step onto that platform whether it be prep time or competition time my focus is to set new records and push my strength to where it’s never been before. I believe that you get out what you put in and that’s why I train as hard as I do. I strive to make my family proud and to succeed in the sport but it can be challenging having a full time job and dedicate the necessary time to training.

What does your training routine look like?

I train in the gym every day after work for a minimum of two hours and follow a strict diet during the week, but life is about balance and every weekend I make sure to reward my body with some good food. Every weekend we train competition events and focus on technique and endurance. My team is very motivating and always willing to stand behind me motivating me, the support is essential in this sport.

What have been the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

I have had to overcome a few injuries in my sporting career such as multiple bicep tears, an ankle operation, knee operation, calf tear and multiple pectoral tears. I have pushed through it all to reach my goal and I will not stop until I reach my next one which is winning the World under 105kg Strongman Title.

What is your message to aspiring Strongmen and Women?

As mentioned earlier, I believe, you get out, what you put in! Strongman is a focus driven sport, you have to be willing to give it your best a 100% of the time and never give up.
